Lyon 06/07

I'm going to Lyon for a year, and this is what I'm getting up to!

Last wee while a Lyon...

Well, it has to be said theres been a sever banter-vacuum here over the past few weeks thanks to what the french call 'partiels', what we call 'shambles' and what are commonly known as 'exams'. They are mostly, though not quite fully over now and so its back to our usual life! Only 1 week to go! Gutting!!!

Jill, Phil, Amy and me waiting for Olympic Lyonnais team bus to arrive - they had just played the last game of the season and so after collecting the trophy they won at the stadium in Gerland they did a tour of the city and ended on a big stage at Hotel de Ville (where we were).

Lumieres!!

Down by zee riverside - Les Berges du Rhone have recently been reopened and so every night they're piled full of people making merry and generally enjoying the lovely weather!

Les lyonnais sur les berges.

Team Erasmus hard at work boozing it up!

Liz, Silke, me, Bryan, Aine enjoying the 36 degree heat :D

Rita (Helsinki), Catherine (Quebec), Liz and Jill with rather a lot of vino!

Everyone's starting to leave lovely Lyon and returning to their homes far away from what has been by far the best uni year any of us have ever had... Its really sad to see everyone go knowing that the likelihood of seeing some of them ever again is fairly slim but invitations have been extended for many a future visit - don't be surprised if i spend the next 20 years travelling round the world trying to relive 'Erasmus Universite Jean Moulin Lyon 3 06/07'. WHAT A YEAR!!!!

Segolene, presidente!!

Last night me, amy, liz, jill, morvs and phil attended a segolene royal political rally in lyon! 20,000 people in a huge hall all cheering on la prochaine presidente de la republique! (on espere...!)

Amy and I with our 'segosphere' placards!

Jill and i dancing to sego's campaign song, the first verse of which is:
Tous unis pour porter l’espérance,
Tous unis pour faire gagner la France
Ségolène tu peux compter sur nous
L’avenir sera au rendez-vous

The crowds infront of us!

Sego's visage on some placards.

A beautifully nicked poster on morv's wall in our building.

Since us scots are so gutted at being out of ecosse for what promises to be a massive victory for the snp, we decided that we better get involved in french politics! As sego would say 'La France a besoin de vous!'

Roma Roma Roma Roma!

This past weekend i spent a long weekend in Roma with 5 other girls - Jill, Morvyn (both Strathclyde), Amy, Liz1 (both manchester) and Liz2 who studied with us in Lyon last semester but is now in Bologna. Here is some of what we got up to...

Liz1, Liz2, Amy, Jill, Morvyn and me at the Trevi fountain - picture taken by a nice old american lady who liked our varied british accents!

Looking amazed at the Colosseo!

Group photo in the Colosseo.

Liz2, me and Amy - both of these girls are nearly 6 ft tall!
Doing a posh spice pout on our pub crawl through Roma! Liz1, me, Jill and Morvs.

Us all at St Peters Basilica - apparently St Pauls in London could fit inside this without touching any walls!

Having just climbed the 640 odd steps to the top of the basilica dome! wuft! warm!

Sitting on the spanish steps - steps which were designed, paid for and built by the french!

Italian ice cream at the Trevi fountain! i had melon flavour! yumyum!

The trevi fountain itself!

Banterful weekend! roll on the next one!

Easter time en Ecosse :)

Back in Bonnie Scotland! Firstly, the icelanders came over for a wee whiley - donald and i thought it best to show them a typical Glasvegas night out and so rallied our troops!

Jill, Ari, Elspeth, Me, Asrun in the Garage

Asrun and Donaldo - nice photo of both of them!!

That weekend Andy and I headed off to Oban to visit his parents. While there we went on a '3 Isles Tour' to Mull, Iona and Staffa...

Our wee 'Staffa Ferries' boat anchored just off Staffar - they had to move away from the wee pier to let another boatload of people off.

Andy sitting up ontop of Staffa having a bit of lunch!

Waiting on Mull for the ferry to Staffa - coffee in a polystyrene cup! yum!

Us both on the boat - lovely day!

Me in Fingals cave on Staffa.

And lastly the obligatory pub shot - phil, me and Xavier the belgian in yet another Lyon drinking establishment!

Hope you're all well! I'm off to Rome this weekend so more photos to follow soon!

Human Rights Weekend in Strasbourg

In fourth year at Glasgow uni law you can do an honours course called the 'human rights project'. This involves firstly being one of the 10 chosen to do it then being split up into two groups and arguing a case against each other infront of the european court of human rights in Strasbourg. We third years on years abroad around europe were invited to Strasbourg for the weekend to support the fourth years and to have a few drinkies and a good bit of Glasgow banter!

Sonia (strasbourg), me, Louise (Chambery), Robbie (Nijmegen) and Shiobhan (Valencia) in a mexican pub.
Me, Sonia, Kirsten (Aix en Provence), Jen (Lund, Sweden), Siobhan, Emma (Strasbourg) Robbie, Paul (Chambery) out in 'le salmandre'.
Coffee in Colmar! a lovely wee place near Strasbourg.
1.2.3. ERASMUS! All 17 of us third years - some travelled from as far as Copenhagen and Lund in Sweden.
Paul in the European Court of Human Rights. Who knows, maybe one day i'll be back working there...!
